Sushi on the Rocks

I'd been wanting to try Sean Preston's 'new' restaurant Sake Restaurant & Bar at The Rocks in Sydney for awhile now. Hearing rave reviews from friends and families, when ze boyfriend and I got some good news this week, it seems like a good celebratory lunch venue.

As soon as you enter the little nook in the wall restaurant, it instantly brings me back to some of the best restaurants I've been to in Japan. As soon as you enter, you are greeted by all the chefs with a cheerful "Irashaimase!!!". Loving the dark wooden interior with the traditional Japanese sunken dining tables.
Of course, I had pre studied the menu but still had no idea what to choose, kind of wish I had gone with more people so we could have more choice. Regardless, we managed to pick 5 of our favourites which we brought super promptly by the staff.

Mixed sashimi platter was fresh and tasty, I'm not a big fan of sashimi but the freshness of the seafood at Sake, I couldn't resist stealing a few pieces from the boyfriend's plate. Followed by Popcorn shrimp, my definite fave. Little fried balls of shrimp tossed in Japanese mayonnaise and a spicy sauce... devine! Then Teriyaki burger balls, which I could have eaten about 100 more of, Spider maki rolls, both crunchy and fresh and finished off with some Tempura. Although the tempura was nice, it was probably the most disappointing dish and I wish we hadn't ordered it so I could have tried Sake's Dessert Bento!

Oh well, there's always next time.... believe me, I'll be going back!

Kazbah @ Top Ryde

I've been going through my photos and this delicious goody came up from the Night Noodle Markets 2010. Mini Dutch Pancakes with strawberries, fresh cream and maple syrup. Reminded me of the the French toast with Bacon at Kazbah. After going to Kazbah at Blamain with Hwei and Soph. I HAD to drag the BF to the new Top Ryde location. Look at the butter melting off the brioche. Its the salty and sweet combination that makes this a winner.

We also got the Breakfast Tagine. I shared the two dishes with my bf and we struggled to finish it. The tagine was HUGE. I remember the table next to us ordered one EACH. Hey i'm not judging, im just sayin' is all.

Hwei we must try the set menu breakfast one day...

I do admit the Top Ryde Kazbah wasn't as good as the first time I went. We'll have to go back and try again.

Fried Delicious Goodness

Erin and I are big fans of FDG (Fried Delicious Goodness), so when I discovered this Hot & Spicy Fried Chicken mix on a recent trip to Malaysia, I had to bring it back for us to try.

Perfect golden delicious piece

We accompanied it with green salad to make us feel less fat
I love her, but I'm not in love with her
Erin teaching me the perfect way to fry
Verdict: Whilst not "Hot & Spicy" at all, the fried chicken mix did make the chicken deliciously salty and tasty. Reminded me of KFC's popcorn chicken, next time MUST put it under the grill after frying to dry it out and make it more crispy. As usual ate way too much and had to lie in the foetal position in bed for awhile to recover.
